This name is anything but “lame.” It has both male and female variations, and is taken from the Latin Claudius. For you history buffs, you’ll recognize the name Claudius as the name of several Roman Emperors, particularly the emperor who succeeded Caligula. He was, in fact, considered to be lame by his family because he suffered from slight deafness, a speech stutter and a limp. He turned out to be an extremely competent ruler. Aside from it’s Latin origins, the name Claude is probably most famous because of iconic French painter Claude Monet.
