#4 A Little Whimsy

Parents are choosing to do a few small repairs to existing favorites for a startling, but not shocking, effect. Making minor tweaks, such as swapping a letter or adding a new one, may result in calling your baby Aubrey instead of Audrey, Kolton instead of Colton, or Jacoby instead of Jacob. Adding an N to Aniston made all the difference to Grey's Anatomy star Chyler Leigh's daughter, Anniston Kae.

#5 Fake-Outs

Giving your child a terrible name, and publicizing it, is the latest trend for celebrity pranksters. Tobey Maguire debuted the paperwork for a mock birth certificate for son Otis, spelled "Oatis," to shocked wife, Jennifer Meyer. On Twitter, Erykah Badu claimed to call her newborn daughter "Twitty Milk." (Her real name: Mars Merkaba.) The moral to this story? Keep 'em guessing till the end.

Of course, not all stalled names are purposely mysterious. Both Gisele Bündchen and Leelee Sobieski drew blanks after giving birth and had trouble coming up with names for their babies. Gisele Bündchen finally picked the name Benjamin for her son. After some dithering, Leelee Sobieski finally named her daughter Louisanna Ray.

#6 Announcing the Name Before the Birth

Joey Lawrence and his wife, Chandie Yawn-Nelson, are expecting their second daughter in April 2010, but the couple has a name picked out already: Liberty Grace. Announcing your choice early and publically ensures not only bragging rights, but that you will be the first to claim any early recognition and trendsetting for a particular style or name.
