Lately I've been noticing names like Krishna and Bodhi in the news. I find them to be so beautiful and am interested in giving my baby an Indian name. Can you suggest some other options?

With their ancient roots and spiritual meanings, Indian names have a global appeal that easily translates to other cultures and traditions. It's no wonder that these names are highly prized by modern parents as they manage to sound both old and new, familiar and exotic.
Here are some familiar—and sometimes famous—Indian names:
Mira means "prosperous" in Hindi and is the name of a beloved Indian saint, Mira Bai, but can also be associated with the Latin word mirabilis meaning "wonderful" or "peace" in Slavic.
Tara, the name of a Buddhist and Hindu goddess, means "star" in Sanskrit and "rocky hill" in Irish.
Rohan, may mean "red-headed" in Irish, but it also means "ascending" in Sanskrit.
Meena means "precious stone" in Sanskrit.
Chandra means "moon" in Sanskrit.
Nina is a Hindu word that means "beautiful eyes."
The name Krishna signifies a Hindu deity or superior being and literally means "black, dark, or dark blue,"which refers to the color of the God's skin. Top Chef host and cookbook author Padma (Sanskrit for "lotus") Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of wisdom, prosperity, and wealth) wanted to give her daughter "a classically Indian Sanskrit name" and chose Krishna.
Karma, the name of musician and actor Ludacris' daughter, is the Sanskrit word for "destiny."
Bodhi, which means "wise or enlightening," is the name of actor Oliver Hudson and wife Erinn Bartlett's second son.
Satyana (or "sits in truth") is the name of How I Met Your Mother actress Alyson Hannigan and husband Alexis Denisof's daughter.
And, last but not least, actress Monica Bellucci named her oldest daughter Deva, derived from the Sanskrit word for "God."
