Q&A: Can you suggest some baby names for movie buffs?

My husband and I are movie buffs, and are trying to pick out baby names that have a classic silver-screen sound. Where do we start?

Hollywood names make sophisticated and glamorous picks. Start with classic actors and actresses you adore—Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Ava Gardner, Kate Hepburn, or Greta Garbo—and you might have a Cary, Grant, Spencer, Kate, Ava, or Greta waiting to make an entrance in your life.

In recent years, Tallulah Bankhead, Jean Harlow, and Brigitte Bardot have all found themselves celebrity baby namesakes. David Boreanaz welcomed daughter Bardot Vita in 2009 and Nicole Richie and Joel Madden welcomed daughter, Harlow Winter Kate, in 2008. The late heiress Casey Johnson named her daughter Ava-Monroe, adopted in 2007, after her idol, Marilyn Monroe.

The tide (and tally) of Tallulahs in Hollywood is also on the rise. Demi Moore and Bruce Willis named their third daughter, Tallulah Belle, born in 1994. Later that year, Simon Le Bon welcomed his third daughter, Tallulah Pine. Patrick Dempsey's daughter, Talula Fyfe, was born in 2002. Philip Seymour Hoffman has a daughter, Tallulah, born in 2006, and Damon Dash and Rachel Roy welcomed a daughter, Tallulah Ruth, in 2008.

As for the boys, there is Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin, or Buster Keaton. Kevin Nealon has a son, Gable Ness, born in 2007. Jonny Lee Miller welcomed a son, Buster Timothy, in 2008.

Other glamorous vintage inspirations to gaze upon favorably: Errol Flynn, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Sidney Poitier, Grace Kelly, Merle Oberon, Dorothy Dandridge, Warren Beatty, and Natalie Wood. You could name your daughter Audrey (as Greg Kinnear did), Audree, or Aubrey—or be inspired by one of her greatest roles: Sabrina, Holly Golightly, Eliza, and Ondine.

Recent Academy Award favorites include George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and Colin Firth. Oscar is a golden-statue favorite, too!
