Bathing Baby: A Guide to Getting Your Little One Clean

Knowing How Often

Newborns have moist, smooth skin that provides a barrier against bacteria and environmental irritants. Their skin doesn't need to be cleansed often except in the diaper area. A bath two or three times per week is sufficient.

If your baby's umbilical cord hasn't yet fallen off, you need only administer a sponge bath. After the cord has detached, you can give your baby a traditional bath in a sink or baby bathtub.
