Week 25 Brain Booster
Does this research let parents off the safety hook? With brains wired for stopping before falling, do newly mobile babies really need constant supervision?
Absolutely. While crawlers may see the edge of the stairs, they aren't perfectly skilled at maneuvering them yet. They don't know how to turn around and slither down safely; doing so takes much practice. They need you to watch them carefully and coach them as they master skills for going up and down various surfaces so that they won't fall and hurt themselves.
