Q&A: Should my six-month-old be able to sit up on his own?

My baby boy is six months old and every time I sit him down he gets all upset, even breaking out in a sweat. Shouldn't he be sitting on his own by now? What can I do to help him?

Not all babies are able to sit at this age. Six-month is still on the younger side for sitting. If he's becoming upset it is probably because he is as frustrated as you sound. With a bit of time he'll figure out the art of sitting on his own. In the meantime try to give him plenty of tummy time so his back and neck can grow stronger.
