Swine Flu Symptoms and Treatments for Families

How Is Swine Flu Different?

The H1N1 virus causes many of the same symptoms as typical flu viruses—fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and fatigue. Diarrhea and vomiting may also occur—which is one of the possible signatures of an H1N1 infection.

Like regular flu, H1N1 flu can range from mild to severe. What's notable—and alarming—about swine flu is that life-threatening complications don't just strike the very young, very old, or the infirm, as with seasonal flu. Swine flu is more likely to cause life-threatening illness in people 25 years old and younger.
