The Importance of CPR
No matter how many steps we take to childproof our homes, safety is never a guarantee. Children's curiosity and determination can still lead them to dangerous situations.
As parents, we hope that nothing will happen to our precious children; yet we can't always be there, and as important as prevention is, it is also crucial that all parents know lifesaving techniques.
If you've never taken a course in lifesaving, we urge you to enroll in a Red Cross class today; meanwhile, read through this piece to learn the basics of what to do in an emergency. And if you need a refresher on lifesaving techniques, this article serves as a companion to your certification.
When a life-threatening situation arises, the best thing you can do is to remain calm. First check the infant or child for consciousness, breathing, pulse, and bleeding. If someone is in the area, look at them directly and forcefully tell them to call 911. If you are alone, dial 911 and begin to care for the person in trouble.
