Q&A: Should my baby's red lump be looked at?

My six-month-old daughter has a red bump right above her belly button. I noticed it a few days ago and did not think much of it, but it has not gone away. Is this something I need to take her to the doctor for?

Hmmmm, this is a tough one to field electronically. When it comes to rashes and bumps on the skin seeing it and feeling it are crucial.I could generate a list of possibilities for you, but without knowing whether it is growing, painful, hard versus squishy or blanching with pressure, I can't really narrow that list down for you, nor tell you what you really want to know, whether this is serious or not. I suggest you call your doctor's office to discuss it with them. He/she may not want you to rush in immediately, but if you want a definitive answer, you will need that red bump looked at. PS: No questions are ever too silly or trivial when they involve your child.
