What's in a Name?
It's known as the swine flu, but the flu virus we're talking about is more accurately called the 2009 H1N1 virus. When it was first detected, it was dubbed "swine flu" because its genes seemed similar to that of a flu virus that affects pigs in North America. But experts soon discovered that the H1N1 virus was a very different type of virus.
