Watch your child's use of tools and see what you can do to enhance such play. Push carts, scoops, and pull toys all support babies' interest in tool use.

If your child loses her ball under the sofa, don't be surprised if she grabs an umbrella within reach and uses its crook to retrieve the ball. (You may be amazed at how Baby uses items in more ways than they're intended.) And remember: Children are very inventive with their use of tools—consider this as you eye that cake left on the table with the dangly tablecloth ....
