How New Airport Security Rules Affect Flying with Your Baby
The US Transportation Security Association has issued a number of restrictions regarding what you can and can't bring onto an airplane. But what about breast milk and formula? Find out how the latest rules affect air travel with babies and young children.
Formula, Breast Milk, and Other Liquids
- Mothers flying with—and now without—their child are permitted to bring breast milk in quantities greater than 3 ounces as long as you separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in a quart-size and zip-top bag; declare the items to the TSA security officer at the security checkpoint; and present the items for additional inspection once reaching X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening.
- Security officers will not test or taste (or even ask you or your child to test or taste) the formula or breast milk.
- To minimize hassles, bring only as much formula or milk you need to get your baby to your final destination.
- Juice and other liquids are restricted to 3-ounce containers.
- Baby formula, breast milk, or juice, may be packed in your luggage and checked with your airline.
