There are many wonderful reasons to have a baby: to grow your family, to experience boundless love, and, most importantly of all, to relish the opportunity to dress your little one in a silly costume for Halloween. Oh yes, Halloween is great fun as a new parent. It's especially entertaining to dress children up while they are still too young to veto costume choices, no matter how embarrassing they may be—but, as my Halloween-happy husband and I have discovered, there are other ways to tell if your baby is embarrassed. With the holiday around the corner, I thought these may come in handy…

The Top 10 Signs Your Baby is Embarrassed of His Halloween Costume:

10. Your baby refuses to look at the camera. (See: My poor son in the photo.)

9. If your baby's costume involves making him look like any fast food product, vegetable or main course…? Then, yes, he is probably embarrassed.

8. Your baby keeps finding creative ways to "soil" her costume.

7. Does your baby's costume coordinate with the rest of the family's? Then embarrassment is certain. (As my unwitting Dalmatians can attest.)

6. Even the dog offers the baby a sympathetic paw: "Sorry, kid. And I thought I had it bad in this hot dog costume!"

5. Your baby pretends to sleep the whole time you're parading her around on Halloween (when she's actually closing her eyes out of shame).

4. If the get-up involves carrying him around in a lobster pail or a cracker box, then chances are the kid is embarrassed.

3. Your baby cries when you show him the Yoda costume. (Because he was secretly hoping for a sweet Han Solo get-up to help him woo the girls at daycare.)

2. Your baby grabs your camera after you take a ton of pictures of her as a Whoopee Cushion and "accidentally" drops the camera on the ground.
