A now-learned Reynolds offers some valuable advice: "Get a passport for every child, even if you don't have a trip planned. If you do have a trip scheduled, even if it is six months away, expedite the passport and pay for special delivery! It is worth every penny."

Although the State Department now reports that the backlog of families waiting for passports has subsided, planning ahead is still essential. Having passports in hand long before your trip is wise, and be sure to check the US Department of State website before you book your trip for the most up-to-date information.
