Taylor's Birth Story

by Nicole

My husband Meko and I have been together for 4 1/2 years and were married only 6 months when we became pregnant with our son Taylor. We didn't think that we could have children. In August of 2003 I underwent Laproscopic Lap Band Surgery to help me to loose weight. I am 5' 3" and weighed in at a whopping 402 lbs. By June of 2004 I weighed 261lbs and surprise after loosing 141lbs in 10 months we found out we were going to be parents.

My pregnancy was classified as a high-risk pregnancy, but was nothing close to high risk in my mind. I had a great pregnancy. My son was due to be born March 24, 2005, but decided it was too comfortable in mommy's tummy and so he stayed in the oven an extra week and 4 days. My doctor told me that he could be up to 2 weeks late and I broke into tears. I wanted to hold my baby. She told me that I could be induced that following Monday April 4, 2005.

I was up and roaring to go. I got my first dose of induction medicine at 9 am. I didn't have any contractions, so I received one more dose at 12pm. By 1pm I started to feel the contractions, at 1:45pm I got up to go to the restroom and my water broke. I dilated about a cm every hour and at 5pm told the nurse I couldn't handle the contractions anymore so opted to get an epidural. (I had planned on a natural birth.) I told my husband and family to go walk around or go home to rest because the nurses said I could be in labor for up to 24 hours.

At 8:45 pm I was dilated to a 6 and decided to call my husband and tell him that he could head back in a couple of hours. At 9:15pm I was dilated to a 9 and decided it might be a good idea to call Meko back and tell him to come on down, because our son would be here sooner than I had expected. When he arrived at 10pm I was dilated to a 10 and was almost ready to start pushing. My mother, sister, sister in law and cousin (she had 6 hours of pushing) were there as well. I had a real cheer squad. At 10:14pm I began pushing and 15 minutes later our son was in our arms.

I asked my husband the other day (our son is 4 1/2 months old now) if he was ready to start trying for baby #2. He laughed. I love being a mommy and can't wait to see how our next delivery is in comparison with this one. The doctors and nurses said I delivered very fast considering I was induced and that this was my first baby. Our next child may arrive VERY QUICKLY.
