Hanna's Birth Story

Mom's Point of View Hanna's Here Ok, we got up at 5 am and got ready to go to the hospital. Lucky I woke up and had to go the bathroom because DH had set the alarm for 5 pm So off we go to the hopital. We got there at 6am and if you can belive this but there were 6 other inductions to be done that day as well. I get to my room and get settled. The pitocin was started at 7am. Was having some whimpy contractions...about 9:00 my water broke... The contractions started coming one on top of the other... I was given Stadol to ease the pain of the contractions until the anastesiologist could give me my epidural. I was in heaven once i received my epideral. They turned off the pitocin for about half an hour, to see if the contractions would continue without it, but the contractions started to fizzle out. So they turned the pitocin back on. They kept changing the expected time of arrival for our new baby. First it was 3pm, then 2pm, then 12:30-1:00. My mom came up and brought some baby gifts. My mom came about 10:00. I had the epidural. It went well, and was working great. We were talking, and everything was going fine. I started out at a 2-3 cm when i first came in. I was now up to 5 cm at 11:00. Mom and Pat left for lunch at 11:00. The nurse said they'd have plenty of time to eat lunch, and said I wouldnt have the baby til at least 12:30. I assured Pat and mom that I would be ok, and I would try and get some sleep. The nurse left and said she'd be back in about 20 minutes. And for me to call anastesiologist if I felt anymore pain. Not even 5 seconds after the nurse left, I felt a storng urge to push. I used the call buzzer "I need my nurse. The babys coming". They assured me I was ok, and they would send in my nurse.

Well my nurse walked in and checked me, and I went from a 5 to completely dialated in 5 seconds.... She started throwing orders " take the bed apart...Wheres her husband? Call her OB." She kept telling me not to push. I was getting hysterical because I didnt know where my husband was. The nurse got on her cell phone and telling them to get my doctor and to page my husband and mom. She knew the baby was coming. I was in tears...I just knew I was going to have her by myself. In walked my husband and mom. Pat came in and kissed me telling me to calm down. He told me to melt like jello. Mom told me to melt like pudding. (I looked at them funny). Then Pat said "melt like flubber" (rofl) My doctor came in. Pat was still coaching me with breathing techniques. Doctor get over there and sits down, and I didnt need to push. The nurses asked the OB what the weather was like, and he replied "I dont know, I just jumped in the car and came over here. She started to crown and they said your baby has a full set of hair and its black. Pat and I were majorly confused. (our last baby was bald and blonde). Two pushes later she came out.... No episiotomy was needed. Pat cut the cord. They handed me my baby. And she was so beautiful. My mom got to carry her to the warming table. They did all the baby care in the room. They even did the first bath in the room (which Hanna didn't like) but she liked them washing her hair. I hope you guys like my birth story. Sorry its so long, but its an amazing birth. She weighed 6lbs 10ozs and 19.5 inches was born at 11:53am. She is a beautiful baby and hardly ever cries.

From Dad's Point of view

We had our girl today at 11:53 am cst....

She was 6 lbs 10 ounces...

She was 19.5 inches long She was healthy Mom was healthy too

Heather's labor was 5 hours 53 minutes long (2 pushes) !!!!!!!!!

This was far better than our last pregnancy experience....

I was so impressed, I almost thought I could do it....She made it look that easy.

All the nurses were great..... The hospital was far superior over our last one.....

(before delivery) Heathers mom and I went to lunch after the nurse checked her and she was at 5 cm. We got stuck on the eleveator while going to the cafeteria. Apparently Heather had jumped from a 5 to a full 10cm.... they paged us, and we didnt hear it since we were on the elevator. She desperatley tried to reach a nurse.....

As her mom and I ate, her mom was finishing her food, and said, "you think we ought to go back now?" I had already finished my food, and said "Yes!" So we trotted up to the elevator, and slowly rode back to the l&d floor. When we arrived, the anesthesiologist said they had been trying to page us, and that she was fully dialated and ready. We rushed in to find this was true. The doctor arrived about 5 minutes later.... Heather temporarily stopped labor for about 3 minutes, the nurses laughed. Apparently every time they call a doc, the lady no longer is in labor. They asked the doc if the weather was hot. He replied, "I didnt have time to notice" since he simply jumped in his car and drove over. Then heather had to push, the baby's head started to come out, but popped back in when the contraction over. On the next contraction, she pushed the baby all the way out. It was an awesome sight to see. This even impressed one of her friends so much that her friend now says she has baby-itis.....

Heather will be back Thursday around noon or later to post the full update.... as a proud dad, I just had to tell everyone, including my friends....

Wish her a "congratulations" and a warm welcome to our newest member of the family "Hanna Cheyenne"
