Mariah's Birth Story

by Mariella

My pregnancy was beautiful and uneventful with no morning sickness, heartburn, or nausea, and my labor was a beautiful experience as well.

When my contractions started at about 5:30 PM, I thought they were Braxton Hicks. At about 6:15 PM, I had the show, and at 8 PM the contractions were getting a bit painful and were coming every five minutes, lasting for about 45 seconds. The previous weekend I had already gone to the hospital with a false alarm and didn’t want to risk it again. Imagine my disappointment when I was sent home from the hospital with the baby still in my tummy and not in my hands!

My contractions continued getting stronger and I was driving my husband crazy because I was pacing all around the house and absolutely refused to go to the hospital! At 11 PM, my waters broke and I felt the need to throw up. As my husband went to take my bag to the car, I phoned our parents and told them we were going to the hospital. When we arrived, I was examined by the midwife, who told me that I was already 10 centimeters dilated and she could easily feel my baby's head! At 11:25 PM, I was admitted into the labor ward.

Mariah, my little angel, was born on Tuesday, April 4, at 12:05 AM weighing about six pounds. There wasn't a need or even the time to take any pain relief or medications. My husband surprised our parents by telling them that our daughter was born even before they arrived at the hospital. As my birth was so straightforward, I was dismissed on Wednesday and this time, with my baby in my hands!

If you practice your breathing exercises diligently, you have a big possibility to have a natural childbirth, which will remain a beautiful experience that you will treasure forever.
