On August 8, a week before my due date, I woke up at 3 AM with small contractions. I didn't think much about them so I went back to sleep. I got up that morning around 10 AM and got into the pool, while still having contractions. This was my first pregnancy so I didn't think the contractions were serious.
My husband and I spent the day in the pool and did things around the house. At 6 PM we headed to Babies ‘R’ Us to pick up a few more things. My contractions became more intense and were coming every nine minutes, but we weren't worried so we went on with our outing.
We arrived at Babies ‘R’ Us and as we approached the child safety section, my water broke! Yep, right there in the store! I didn’t go to the rest room right away to check things out, but when I did, we decided we had better pay for our stuff and get out of there. We discussed going to dinner but then I realized I had better call my doctor. We went home, I took a shower, and got my things ready to head to the hospital. I was now in serious pain. We live within walking distance of the hospital so we got there quickly.
We arrived at the hospital at 8 PM and the nurse checked me. When she took a look, there was my baby! Little Sydney was ready to make an appearance and was crowning! My doctor arrived just in time for me to push twice, and our little six-pound, six-ounce angel was born at 8:40 PM, only 48 minutes after we arrived at the hospital. It was a strange delivery for being my first, but I would do it again in a minute!
