Thayne's Birth Story

by Denay

My husband and I decided to have a baby after three and half years of marriage. Life was going very well for us and we were quite comfortable, so we knew that it was time to start a family. I was pregnant three months after this decision.

I never got sick or had any complications. I just kept having this feeling that I needed to be prepared early. So I packed my hospital bag, we fixed up the baby's room and finished the shopping for all the little things we needed. At 37 weeks I went in to see my doctor for my first cervical exam and he asked me if I had any labor pains, and I hadn't. Then we started discussing what would happen if I were to go past my due date. He said we'd talk about it after my exam. Well, he examined me and I was 95 percent effaced, dilated to four cms. and the baby's head was at the 0 point. Needless to say, I wasn't going to have to worry about being late.

My doctor told my husband and me to go check in at the hospital and if I didn't progress after a few hours then I would probably be sent home, but he was pretty sure I was going to have the baby that night! Our appointment had been at 2:35 p.m., so by the time we got to the hospital it was 4:00 p.m. We sat in the waiting room, made some calls, and watched televison. Around 5:00 I felt some cramping, and contractions started coming, very light, but they were five minutes apart, lasting one minute. After we got into a room, I changed and we walked around a while. My doctor arrived at 6:45 p.m., broke my water, monitored me a bit, did some paperwork and went home. My husband also left to get my hospital bag. He got back just at the point when the nurse asked me if I wanted anything for the pain. I said I wanted to go natural and that I was ready to push. My doctor didn't even make it home before they called him back.

Once the doctor arrived, I pushed for about 15 minutes but my baby still wasn't coming. At 8:12 p.m., while the doctor was 'giving me a little more room' Thayne popped right out! In fact, my husband caught him.

Our little boy, Thayne Kyle Tubbs, was born a healthy six pounds, eight ounces and had a head full of blonde hair. It is so hard to believe that I made this little person, that he was actually inside of me kicking, hiccupping, and wiggling. And that now, life is even better than we could've even imagined!
