Gotta love Kelly Preston! This fab celebrity mom gets serious and talks candidly about getting pregnant later in life.
The Scoop
In a sit down with Health magazine, Kelly Preston, movie star mom and wife of John Travolta, opened up about becoming pregnant last year at age 47, not long after the couple's firstborn son, Jett, age 16, died unexpectedly following a seizure. As Preston reveals, contrary to tabloid reports about the couple's motivation for getting pregnant relatively late in life (after shortly after a family tragedy), having a third child had been in the works for a very long time.
"We had been trying for quite a few years, and then of course there was a time when we weren't [after Jett's death], and then we started trying again. When I found out I was pregnant, I was floored. I'd snuck out of bed and then came back and woke Johnny up in bed. We both started crying. It was wonderful," Preston tells Health.
As for her age (she was 47 year old when she became pregnant), Preston never felt worried. "I didn't have any doubts. I love being pregnant. I love the closeness I feel when I'm carrying them. I love feeling them move inside me. My heart breaks for people who aren't able to have kids. But I feel like there's really hope for anyone."
Health at Any Age
To stay in top shape for her new pregnancy, Preston says she switched to an all-organic diet free of chemicals, antibiotics, and hormones—something she also credits with keeping her family fit and healthy now that baby Benjamin is beginning to near his first birthday. "We eat primarily organic, and as little packaged and canned as possible. On the other hand, I'm loose about desserts! We're not obsessive. I say: Do what you can, enjoy yourself, and don't live in fear."
Preston's advice for other women contemplating later in life pregnancies? "For a lot of people getting older means you start slowing down. I don't think you have to. A lot of it is mind-set."
