Fun Ways to Tell If You're Fertile
The signs of fertility aren't all technical. These surprising and flirty clues may actually be telling you (and your partner) that it's "go time"
Your basal body temperature looks promising, changes in cervical mucus are on the money, and your ovulation kit says you’re good to go. One more clue that you may be at or near peak fertility? Check out what you’re wearing, according to new research that says ovulating women tend to wear red or pink.
The study, conducted by researchers at the University of British Columbia, asked 124 women, ages 18 to 47, what color shirt they were wearing and when they had had their last period. After calculating peak fertile days for each woman, researchers found out that women wearing red or pink were about three times more likely to be at peak fertility than women donning other colors.
Is this our own version of strutting like a peacock? Next, researchers plan to ask women why they selected a particular clothing shade in the hopes this will reveal whether dressing in bold and sexy red or feminine and pretty pink are signs of an ovulation-triggered urge to attract a mate… and then get down to business.
Other offbeat ways to figure out it’s your primo time of the month for getting pregnant? Look for these clues…
Your sense of smell is heightened
If your sense of smell can tell you exactly what your co-worker is having for lunch without even entering the office break room, you may want to take the rest of the day off and have your partner do the same. Studies show that women tend to have a heightened sense of smell during their most fertile days, due to certain hormonal changes. And get this: fertile women’s noses even seem to prefer the smell of male body odor!
Your partner finds you (even more) irresistible and sexy
British researchers asked a group of men to look through photos of 48 women and choose those viewed as the most beautiful. Overwhelmingly, men were more drawn to women who, as it turned out, were ovulating. What fertile features drew them in? Among them, fuller lips and softer skin, two subtle changes in women’s features produced by hormonal changes during ovulation.
You feel more sexy and irresistible too!
Is that little red dress you haven’t worn since last month suddenly looking very appealing? A number of different studies say that women tend to put more effort into their appearance during ovulation by dressing in sexier and flashier clothes and wearing more make up.
Your voice becomes sexier
Can’t make it through ordering your coffee at the drive-thru without using your flirty voice? You may be fertile. Researchers from UCLA say that women unconsciously change their voices with the approach of ovulation, using a higher, more feminine pitch in social communication.
Your sex drive is in overdrive
For obvious reasons, women tend to experience an increase in sexual desire during peak fertility days. In fact, in a diary study on couples, periods of ovulation were the only times in a month when wives asked for more sex than their husbands.
You may be more likely to cheat
Your head and your heart know that you’re in a committed relationship, but your hormones? They don’t seem to care too much. Results from a University of New Mexico study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society suggests a strong link between a woman’s ovulation/peak fertility days and a heightened interest in men other than her spouse.
In other words, when your body wants to make a baby, it wants to RIGHT NOW. So the next time you’re in a provocative pink dress, talking in a baby voice and sniffing the air, call your partner because it’s likely “go time”!
