Q&A: Can an ovulation predictor kit be wrong?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

Can a woman ovulate and still get a negative with the ovulation predictor kit? I have the EWCM (egg white cervical mucus), pains in the lower abdomen, and the temp rise.

You can always get it wrong if you don't do it exactly according to directions. The pains you mention are not very meaningful, but the temp rise is a pretty good indicator, especially if you're watching it graphically on a Basal Body Temperature (BBT) chart.

Tests with urine can be subject to the overdilution or overconcentration of urine at the time. I'm not familiar with the ewcm type and whether that's urine or saliva, but either way, your state of hydration can alter the result as described above with your urine.
