Q&A: Can the opposite tube "scoop up" a released egg?

I understand that which ovary releases an egg is a random event. I have heard, however, that the tubes can actually compete for an egg. If the right ovary releases an egg, is it true that the left tube can go over and try to 'scoop' that egg up?

I ask because I do have a blockage at the beginning of my left tube but I have been ttc for 6 months now. You would think that my right ovary could and should have released and egg at some point in this period of time. (my right tube is clear - no blockage).

I plan on having an HSC to clear the blockage to increase my changes of getting pregnant.

The tubes are somewhat "migratory," seeking out recent ovulatory sites, probably by being attracted to an inflammatory effect there. And yes, it is possible for one tube to take in an egg from the opposite ovary, but that is a stretch. Possible but unlikely.

The HSG to clear your tubes is a better idea than waiting for such tubular gymnastics.
