Q&A: Can I take Paxil while trying to conceive?

I am currently taking anxiety medication (Paxil and Xanax) and want to start trying to conceive. I know I can't take Xanax while trying to conceive, but what about Paxil? How long do I need to be off medications befre safely trying to conceive?

It would be best to be off both of these medications. However, Paxil is acceptable after the first trimester, if the benefits outweigh the "theoretical" risks. If your depression is of a threatening nature, it's important to stay on an antidepressant. But, if you are taking medication expressly for anxiety, I recommend, believe it or not, daily exercise and routine bedtime and waking times.
