Q&A: Is it possible to have sticky cervical mucus without ovulating?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I have been keeping track of my cycles for the past six months. I have also started using Ovulens. According to the BabyZone calendar, yesterday should have been my most fertile day. I also had a lot of sticky mucus yesterday which would indicate ovulation, but according to the Ovulens fertility detector I am not at all fertile. Which method is the most reliable? Could I have the sticky mucus without ovulating?

Since all of this can be very subjective, there's error inherent in this. If you really wanted to go all out with the best info, contact the Couple to Couple League, who do what is called "Natural Family Planning," and they use such things as mucus and other signs and symptoms to great effect for contraception as well as for trying to conceive. The national office of the Couple to Couple League is 3621 Glenmore Avenue, P.O. Box 111184, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45211-1184, (513) 661-7612.
