Cost: Only the price of toilet paper or tissues; you can download charts for free

Pros:

  • This is a great way to get in tune with your body and cycles.
  • This type of testing can be used in concert with basal body temperature (BBT) and menstruation charting for a more detailed holistic understanding of your fertility.
Cons:
  • For some women, this method may induce the ick-factor. Mucus travels from the cervix down the walls of the vagina, so it gets mixed with other fluids, and it’s often difficult to get a pure sample.
  • This is relatively labor intensive.
