Q&A: Can I have a period and still be pregnant?

by Marie O'Sullivan, RN

Is it possible to have a normal period after conception? Would an ovulation test still show a high LH factor? Or am I probably not pregnant, even though there have been signs like headaches, nausea, vomiting, and extreme tiredness?

The symptoms you are experiencing are probably not related to pregnancy, especially if you have just had a normal period.

After conception, some people have a small amount of spotting around the time of their period called implantation bleeding, but it is not like a normal period. Nausea and vomiting usually begin in week six of pregnancy. Take a pregnancy test just to be sure and talk to your OB if you still feel you may be pregnant.
