Q&A: What are the chances of obesity and Clomid producing twins?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I'm overweight and trying to conceive. My doctor recently recommended that I take Clomid. I'm concerned about using this fertility treatment because of the risk of twins. I've heard your chances of having twins while taking Clomid is one in four. Is that true?

No. the chances of twins are only slightly greater for a woman on Clomid than for anyone else who ovulates well without using Clomid. Assuming that your health care provider has ruled out other fertility issues, Clomid is an excellent way to achieve ovulation.

Excess weight, however, can also impact your ovulation cycles. Losing weight is still the best way to achieve normally functioning cycles.
