I'm trying to get pregnant. So far, I've been taking Clomid at 50mg off and on for almost a year. I've read that you shouldn't take Clomid for extended periods of time because it can change your cervical mucus. What are your thoughts? (I've also gained about eight pounds with Clomid!)

I generally don't recommend Clomid for more than six months. The body seems to become less sensitive to it. The best test to see if Clomid provoked a good ovulation is with a day 21 progesterone level. If it comes back >15, the Clomid worked. I advise checking progesterone levels instead of other methods for evaluating Clomid's effectiveness, like ovulation kits and basal body temperature (BBT), both of which are very helpful, though.
