My husband and I tried for three years to conceive our second child. I have ovary shutdown and couldn't ovulate without Clomid. I spent two years taking Clomid, finally reaching a dosage of 200 mgs. In August 2000, I had three follicles which didn't release the eggs, resulting in the formation of a softball-sized cyst on my ovary. This happened the night before my first child's fourth birthday.
My husband and I decided that if our trying for another child was going to take away from the child we already had, it was not worth doing. We decided I´d go off the Clomid and we´d stop trying for another child.
My husband and I grew closer without the stress element, and lovemaking became enjoyable again. In December 2000, I got my period for the first time in three years without any medications. I was thrilled. I prayed that maybe now I would be able to get pregnant. We did not try, we didn´t do any ovulation tests; we just did what we wanted, when we wanted. When my period was a week late, I took a home pregnancy test, but dared not to hope too much. I never dreamed it would be positive!
On September 14, 2001 at 3:01 p.m., our second child, a beautiful seven-pound, fourteen-ounce little boy was born.
I have heard of countless couples who have conceived a baby after they stopped "trying." I truly believe that, along with lots of prayers, it is why it happened for us.
