Q&A: Is aching and cramping after an embryo transfer normal?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I had cryo embryos transferred six days ago. For the past four days, I've had aching, cramping, and fullness in my uterus, and my lower back feels tired. No bleeding. Should I be worried that things have gone wrong?

What you had was manipulation into your uterus, which typically responds with these types of symptoms. Although these symptoms can signal a threatened miscarriage, they're also quite normal. Let your doctor know, and in the absence of bleeding, you'll probably just be at bedrest in addition to the precautions you've been advised. Of course, bedrest may not really do anything, but it can't hurt.
