I would like to try to track my ovulation to determine a potential window of fertility. I understand the basic 28-day cycle fairly well: around Day 14 the woman ovulates and then 14 days later, she menstruates.
What happens if the woman ovulates on Day 20? Does she still menstruate 14 days later? Or does ovulation always take place halfway through the cycle, so that for a 40-day cycle, ovulation would take place on Day 20?
Thank you very much for your kind attention.

The only constant you can rely on is menstruation 14 days after an ovulation. Any delays could be the result of faulty ovulation. The fertility window is six days before ovulation until the day of ovulation, with chances of conception falling rapidly thereafter. Since you can only tell when you ovulated in arrears, there is a marked advantage to knowing your cycle well.
