Q&A: My breasts are tender. Could I be pregnant?

by Marie O'Sullivan, RN

I'm 35 this year and try to get pregnant for a long time. My 1st day of my last period was on Jan 29. On day 13, my breast became really tender and I had a bloody spot. On day 18 I had another spot and on day 19. My breasts are really tender and warm. Could I be pregnant? My next period's only due on Feb 26.

Unfortunately, the only way to tell if you are pregnant is to wait until you miss your period. Blood pregnancy tests can detect a pregnancy a few days before you miss a period(but it is more expensive and you have to set it up with your OB). Most home test detect pregnancy the day you miss your period. I know the wait is hard but it is the only way of knowing.
