A mechanical device that pumps breast milk from the breast so that it can be stored for later consumption by the baby. Some babies are not able to feed at the breast immediately after birth due to illness. These infants can still receive breast milk that has been pumped from the breast. There are both manually operated and electrically operated pumps. The electric pump is far easier and more likely to maintain the flow of milk, though it is significantly more expensive.
