WAHMA type of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin. It is strongly associated with other allergic conditions such as asthma and hayfever. In infants 2-6 months of age it usually first appears on the cheeks and scalp and then spreads to the trunk. Eczema looks like itchy, dry, flaky, red bumps that can ooze and crust over if it becomes infected. In older children and adults, the usual sites of involvement are the antecubital fossa (inner folds of the arms) and behind the knees. Chronic or long term eczema causes the skin to thicken and become scaly.
