Examination of the abdominal or pelvic organs through a thin, flexible tube. This tube acts much like a telescope that allows the surgeon to visualize internal organs through only a small incision. Not only can this technique allow diagnostic testing, but also permits surgical operations that previously required a wide incision on the abdomen.
