Abnormally small jaw. The jaw may be so small that it interferes with the infant’s breathing and eating. The infant may need special nipples, special positioning, or even surgery so the baby has an unobstructed airway. Micrognathia may occur as the only abnormality or in combination with other problems. It may correct itself during growth, especially at puberty when the jaw grows significantly.
