Hemoglobin

The chemical in red blood cells that carries oxygen to the tissues. The hemoglobin level is measured as grams of hemoglobin per 100 milliliters of blood. The hemoglobin measurement is commonly used to identify anemia and determine when an infant needs a blood transfusion. This test may also be used to identify abnormal bleeding in an infant.
