Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling (PUBS)

Procedure in which a blood sample is withdrawn from the umbilical cord while the fetus is still within the uterus. The blood sample is used mainly for rapid chromosome analysis or to evaluate the fetus at risk for a number of blood disorders, such as anemia or low platelet count.
