This term is often used to mean the circulation of the blood in the skin. It can be checked by seeing how quickly the capillaries in the skin refill. When the skin of the chest is gently depressed, it becomes white as the blood is pressed out of the skin. The length of time it takes for the blood to refill the depressed area of skin is a crude measure of how well the heart and circulatory system are working.
