WHAMThe period of confinement during and just after labor. Technically, the meaning includes the 6 subsequent weeks after delivery. During this time the reproductive tract returns anatomically to its nonpregnant state. Within 2 weeks the uterus has descended into the pelvic cavity. After about 4 weeks it has returned to the prepregnancy size.
