Tipped Uterus (or Tilted Uterus)
A uterus that leans toward the back of the pelvis instead of staying in a vertically straight or slightly forward position.
A tipped uterus is rarely a cause of infertility or miscarriage. Occuring in about 20 percent of women, it is in most cases a normal variation of uterine development; however, childbirth can tip the uterus, especially if ligaments are severely loosened. Some symptoms might be pain with intercourse or menstruation, and surgical procedures are used to repair extreme cases.
Other common and medical terms for the condition include backward uterus, retroverted uterus, tilted womb, uterine retrodisplacement, uterine retroflexion, or uterine retroversion.
