Hit the Park
Head over to a local park for some exploring fun! You may want to stay on the beaten path or head off on a nature trail. Little kids love to ride in backpacks, and older children can walk alongside you. Point out the different shapes and colors of leaves, the variety of sounds in the park, and enjoy some time away from home together. Be sure you pack some wipes, water, and a snack.
Wagon Rides
Instead of taking a stroller, pull your child in a wagon. One enterprising father pushed his laughing daughter around the block in a wheelbarrow. Your children will love seeing your playful side with this simple change in routine.
Mall Time
If the weather is bad, check out your local mall before it opens for shoppers. Many malls open early for people to exercise.
Teach a Lesson
Carry two small "STOP" and "GO" signs on your walk. As you get to a street crossing, show your child the correct sign as you cross the street.
Play in the Rain
Are gray skies looming? Don't let a little rain stop you. An everyday walk takes on a new experience as your child dons her rain boots to tromp through mud puddles. You'll probably have some extra dirty laundry after the walk, but sloshing through puddles is guaranteed fun for little kids!
Whether you take a stroll around the park, through city streets, or just in your own neighborhood, your family is sure to enjoy time spent together talking, laughing, and doing something healthy for yourselves in the process. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and take a hike!
