Would You Travel with Only Half Your Children? Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Do
If stroller-checking and lap-seating has you down, consider this for your next holiday getaway: traveling with half your children.
The summer travel season is coming to an end just in time for many road-weary parents. If all the stroller-checking and lap-seating has you down, consider this for your next holiday getaway: traveling with half your children.
Busy celebrities Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been spotted hitting the road recently with half their brood. The pair often travel on short trips with a select few of their kids, most recently taking 9-year-old Pax and 5-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne to Japan. Brad Pitt has previously been spotted traveling solo to Russia and NYC with daughters Shiloh, 7 and Zahara, 8, while Angelina Jolie has taken son Maddox, 12, on his own to London.
We say this tactic makes a lot of sense for international travel or theme parks that the littlest ones are too young to enjoy, but where do parents draw the line? Dividing and conquering for holiday visits? Weekend camping trips? If half the kids get to enjoy specific experiences, the other half better get their own equally-awesome adventures down the line – and parents should do their best to make sure the whole group gets together to bond on certain travel occasions as well.
Packing up half the family also takes quite a bit of consideration in terms of the children being left behind. Nannies or family members tasked with watching them should be left with a written schedule and pertinent medical information. Prepared meals or food suggestions for what babies or toddler like to eat will prevent them from refusing new foods and creating a mealtime struggle. It can be helpful to have childcare providers come to your home instead of trying to pack up the children and get them settled in an unfamiliar environment.
For large families who want to travel all at once, it can be helpful to enlist a friend or family member to come along on vacation and provide a spare set of hands. Many hotels now offer in-room childcare that can help parents enjoy outings with half of their children while the other half enjoy a quiet night in.
