First Aid for Families

Stings

For a child stung by a bee, wasp, or yellow jacket, remove the stinger by scraping it from the side; avoid using tweezers or fingernails, which may inject more venom into the body. Wash the site with soap and water and apply an ice pack (use a layer of some material before applying ice).

Should the child become flushed, experience hives, or have breathing difficulties, call 911 immediately as this could signal a life-threatening allergic reaction.
