Potty Training Tips for Girls
Time to potty train your daughter? These top potty training tips from our experts will get her started...
Outfit for Training
Dresses can make for easy toileting access and will save time because your daughter won’t have to stop to pull down her pants. (Read how wearing no clothing can be helpful toward the potty process, too.)
Prevent Wardrobe Malfunctions
However, dresses can trip your daughter up as she climbs onto the toilet. And dresses can also drag into the toilet water or get in the way of the stream of urine, so teach your little girl to tuck it up into the neck of the dress to keep it out of the way.
Help Her Stay Dry
Spraying urine can be an issue for girls as well as boys if they are seated far back on the potty and are propping their legs far apart to steady themselves. Teach them to keep their legs together straight out over the potty to the lip of the seat, if this is a problem.
Teach Smart Wiping
Girls are particularly susceptible to urinary tract infections (UTIs) at this age, so work very hard to teach your daughter to wipe poop cleanly, from front to back. Alternatively, you can teach her to wipe her pee-pee first and then get a separate piece of toilet paper to wipe the poop.
