Week 7 Lesson: Emotional Maturity
Week 7 Potty Lesson
Not only does potty training involve your child’s mind and body, but also his or her emotions, as well. Children need to be ready emotionally to give up the diapers that they’ve known since birth and move into disposable training pants or underwear.
Also, some children are afraid of the big toilet and being flushed down it. They live with the notion that if pee and poop can flush down the toilet, so might their entire body. Other children fear that everything that’s inside of them will drop into the potty along with the pee and poop.
These are scary thoughts! But children need to get over these misunderstandings before they can become confident potty users.
This Week’s Readiness Sign
Is my child willing to try on and wear disposable training pants or underwear for even a little while? Is he unafraid of the big toilet and his potty chair?
