Exergaming or Gamercizing
Parents are constantly telling their kids to “cool it” with the video games, but perhaps a little gaming could do a mama good. The Daily Mail reports on a study which found that using active video games for 45 minutes every other day for three months was an effective way to rapidly lose baby weight. Eight women who had given birth the previous year used a Wii Fit console to lead them in activity doing the movements of jogging, yoga, skate boarding a hula hooping. The women lost an average of 11 pounds and up to 28% body fat without ever stepping foot in a gym. This is a great option for busy moms who may have a tough time finding the time and childcare to get to the gym. You can game, I mean exercise, from the comfort of your own home!

The trampoline. It’s not just the co-star in 80% of America’s Funniest Home Videos, but it’s also a fine exercise apparatus. Jumping on a trampoline strengthens your muscles, improves balance and serves as a great cardio workout, especially when you do it for an hour in a group class led by a certified instructor. Try it at Skyzone. It’s better, not to mention much safer, than jumping on your neighbor’s trampoline (didn’t everyone grow up next to a neighbor with a trampoline?).
