8 Healthy Moms to Follow on Instagram
Something I’ve realized about social media these days is how much support and motivation you can find. Nearly two years ago when I started on my own health and fitness journey before getting pregnant, I chronicled my journey via Instagram. I lost 20 pounds, started running and became the healthiest I ever was as an adult. It was great to have other mamas cheer me on and it helped me to be accountable. Their support motivated me to keep going even when I didn’t want to. So now as I’m working on losing my own baby weight, I’m once again reaching out on Instagram. What I’ve discovered though, is that there are lots of healthy and motivational moms posting about their health adventures on Instagram as well. It’s inspiring to get a peak into their lives as they share all their ups and downs, and as they keep positive through it all. Here are eight amazing women who not only inspire and motivate me, but are also helping others along the way.

In December 2013, Lauren began on a journey of clean eating and a healthier lifestyle. She focuses on fueling her body and doesn’t count calories. In nine weeks, she trained and ran her first half marathon. In addition to sharing her journey with health and fitness and how her body is transforming, Lauren posts so many of her clean eating delicious meals along with their recipes. She even includes the foods she prepares for her 19-month-old daughter. I’ve personally made several of her recipes and I’m so hooked! I always look forward to seeing what she’s eating everyday to see how it can influence the foods I prepare for my family.

I’ve been following Allison for quite a while now. After having her second son, she began on a journey to lose weight and get healthy. That’s when she started running. When she got pregnant with her third child, a daughter born last October, Allison continued running and even completed a half marathon early on in her pregnancy. She continued to run throughout most of her pregnancy, and as she’s on another journey to lose the baby weight, Allison keeps everyone updated with how she’s doing, including being very honest about the struggles she faces and the achievements she reaches. She says, “Fitness has been discovering all that my body is capable of, especially after the empowering experience of pregnancy and birth. To me it’s not about getting my ‘body back,’ which I wrote about it in a recent post called I’m Shrinking.”

Diana Smith @livylovestorun
In 2013, Diana Smith began by just walking. A year later, she’s lost 100 pounds and has chronicled her whole journey on Instagram as @livylovestorun. What I appreciate about Diana is that she’s extremely honest and lets her followers know that it’s a daily struggle. She’s not perfect, but she keeps on going.
Diana said, “I started basically by walking every day one to two miles. Gradually it increased to two to three, and so on. Then I incorporated running and signed up for my first 5K. I loved it so much that I did a half marathon the same year. Now I am running three half-marathons this year and loving my new life. For me, being healthy and fit is so important because I want to have energy for my little ones. They are only 2 and 3, but they have tons of energy and I want them to see mom running around with them.”

After her daughter turned 2 in 2012, Kristen saw herself in a photo that changed her life and she vowed to get healthy. She chronicles her 50-pound weight loss as @kris10mac. In April of 2013, when she hit her 50-pound weight loss, Kristen turned from the diet mentality to a healthy lifestyle mindset.
Kristen said, “My thinking has changed completely. It’s not a diet or a fad or just a week of good workouts. It truly is a lifestyle for me. I work out five to six times a week, and I love that my daughter, Ainsley who will be 4 at the end of May, is learning from my healthy example. Now that I am healthy and fit, I can actually run around and be crazy with her and climb on the playground and chase her and play soccer. I couldn’t really do that stuff with 50 more pounds weighing me down.”

In February of 2013, Ashley had a wake-up call when her fit husband landed in the ER after an incident with an Afib. At that moment, she knew how precious life was and she wanted to do all she could do to be healthy, not only for herself, but for her family. She’s been chronicling her journey as @mynestinginstincts, in which she has lost 80 pounds so far!
Ashley said, “Now my focus is losing the last 10-15 pounds but also maintaining a lower weight for the first time in my life! I love running now and being more athletic. I love keeping up with my kids. I love shopping. I love this confidence. I’m so happy I made the choice to move forward with my life and lose the weight and let myself thrive! As a mom I want to be here for my kids. I can’t control everything, but I can be in control of my body weight and athleticism. I love that my kids want to run like Mommy, and most importantly since losing weight, a huge shift has happened in our family. My kids eat a ton of fruit and some veggies and grilled chicken. They eat the normal toddler stuff too, but now there’s a ton of healthy food in their daily diets too. That wasn’t happening before like it should have been. I’m thankful to be helping them at these young ages learn to love fruit and veggies and eating healthfully and loving to play outside and run and thrive!”

Crystal, who posts as @smaller_in_texas, has been sharing with the Instagram world her journey to losing 124 pounds! She’s a busy mom of two children and keeps it real as she posts about her plight to be a healthy and fit mom! In May of 2012, Crystal saw a picture of herself with her family and decided something needed to change, and she hasn’t stop since.
About her journey, Crystal said, “I’ve changed the way I look at food completely and it’s opened my eyes to everything I was doing to my body as well as my family’s. These changes are definitely transferring onto my kids and it’s going to ensure that they live healthy, active lives as well. It’s very important to me that they never have to go through the pain that I did being heavy. They both love to exercise with me when I do my videos and run and they can’t wait to play sports. The other day we went to get groceries and I was getting applesauce, and my daughter said ‘We need the kind with no sugar!’ Just shows me that my healthy habits are passing on to them. That’s all I can hope for.”

Courtney Lee @treadmillrunway
In two and a half years, Courtney Lee has lost more than 130 pounds and lets the world glimpse how she’s done it as @treadmillrunway. After a friend asked her to join a weight loss challenge, there’s been no stopping Courtney, including turning into an indoor cycling class instructor too boot!
Courtney said about her journey, “In the beginning I started slowly, making ONE change at a time. In time those changes began to snow ball into the healthy lifestyle I’m living today. Early on in my journey I discovered my ‘WHY,’ which made it much easier to fight through a craving or tough workout. My ‘why’ is two-fold, I wanted to be the healthiest version of myself, I was tired of being tired and full of aches and pains. The other part of my ‘why’ was/is my children, Sullivan (5) & Sawyer (4). I wanted to be able to model a healthy & active lifestyle for them. In a few weeks we’re running a charity run as a family and the kids are pumped for their first race! Being a parent is hard work, and exercise is my release, my time to zone out and focus on me”

Jennifer Ramirez @jenniferleighramirez
In less than two years, Jennifer has lost 120 pounds and chronicles her journey as @jenniferleighramirez. For Jennifer, her journey has not only been about her health, but also has been fueled by her son who has autism.
She said, “I really had to lose the weight not just for me, but for my son. He is my life and I had to be able to keep up with him to keep him safe. He has autism and runs everywhere and it was getting to where I could not keep up with him in public. I’ve always wanted to be that mom that can play at the park on the equipment and run around with her kid, be able to jump and pick them up. For the first four years of his life I wasn’t. It’s a big regret for me, but I know the present and future is such a blessing now because of me taking my life back. Having good health is priceless and I am in the best shape of my life.”
Jennifer started small by just walking and hasn’t stopped since! Not only does she share about her journey to get fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle, but she also posts motivational thoughts as well as fun times with her awesome son!
